Reading
Number of Reading texts : 3.
The Reading test comprises different task types: From multiple choice and sentence completion questions, to matching headings "Yes/No/Not Given" questions and short answer questions.
Test duration : 60 minutes
Number of questions to attempt : 40 Reading comprises 3 sections: The texts are authentic and taken from journals, newspapers or magazines. They may be descriptive, factual, discursive or analytical and are specifically designed for the IELTS test taker.
Skills Assessed
Ability to read for gist/detail/main idea/opinion - skimming and scanning
Writing
Test duration : 60 minutes.
Number of writing questions : 2
Writing Question 1
Length : 150 words
Academic : The test taker summarizes/ explains the data present in a chart/ graph/ table or diagram.
General : Letter- Formal, Informal, Semi-formal.
Writing Question 2
Length : 250 words
The test taker expresses an opinion or point of view in response to a subject or issue of general interest.
Skills Assessed
The test taker's ability to respond to the two writing tasks based on task achievement, coherence, grammatical range and accuracy, and lexical resource.
Listening
Nubmer of audio recordings : 4.
The Listening test comprises different task types : From multiple choice, sentence completion to diagram labelling, sentence completion and short answer questions.
Test duration : Approximately 30 minutes + 10 minutes to transfer answers.
Number of questions : 40.
Listening audio content comprises 4 sections :
  1. A conversation between 2 people in general context - At a travel office asking for information.
  2. A monologue in a general context - Arrangements for an event.
  3. A conversation with up to 4 people in an educational or training setup.
  4. A talk or lecture on an academic subject.
Skills Assessed
Understanding the main idea/ prediction/ opinions/ specific details - information/ familiar to different accents and voices.
Speaking (Interview)
Test duration: 11 to 14 minutes.
The Speaking test comprises 3 parts :
  1. Introduction : An icebreaker - Warm up with some general questions.
  2. A 2 minute speaking task : The test taker gets a minute to prepare for the speaking topic given by the examiner.
  3. The test taker responds to more questions from the examiner. The questions are related to the topic from the second part of the interview.
The ability to communicate and speak on different topics, to organise ideas, and justify views and opinions based on fluency, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation.
Listening audio content comprises 4 sections :
